About Covid-19 PCR Testing

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s Headquarters for Promotion of Countermeasures against Coronavirus Infections, the usefulness of PCR tests using saliva in diagnosing Covid-19 infections is equivalent to that of conventional nasopharyngeal swabs when used within 9 days of the onset of symptoms. We are using the saliva PCR test as we were able to confirm a high concordance rate with this test for use in asymptomatic patients. In our clinic and laboratory, only for overseas travelers, PCR testing is carried out by the patient’s own expense and national health insurance is not accepted.
